N/W Roadrunner Projects No.7

Kinroad Chinese bike refurbishment Back in February 2015 I thought I should refurbish my Chinese motorcycle a Kinroad GY200 as a bit of a project. For those that don’t know in 2005/6 there was a fairly large number of cheap Chinese motorcycles that arrived in the UK. There were numerous manufacturers, although they were all using similar engines and cycle parts, bit like what happened with British motorcycle industry in the 50s ,& 60s with Villiers or AMC engines and cycle parts. The Chinese had basically copied a Honda engine, I…

DAYTONA TWO Folowing on from my 1970s Daytona, l like many others moved on to Japanese two strokes, and then a varity of Japanese four strokes, ending up with a Yamaha FZR1000 Exup, an amazing machine, l have owned it since 1992, and its been faultless, and as daft as this sounds, l think that is the reason why people say they have no ‘soul’, because l had to fix/repair, and alter my Daytona, it turned into a sort of love/hate relationship, and out of all the faultless Jap bikes…

Brian’s 2nd Southport Ramble

Brian’s 2nd Southport Ramble Brian Moorcroft organised his second run around the lovely lanes of lancashire repeating the run held a week previously as some of our members were unaware of the first run on Sunday 13th. They had a lovely day of sunshine all following Covid_19 guidelines again and enjoyed the day finishing up back at Brian’s from where they had set off. I wasn’t able to attend sadly, but had been fortunate to do the first one on the 13th along with another group of smiling members. So…

Brian’s Southport Ramble

Brian’s Southport Ramble Just got back from Brian Moorcrofts run. We had a fabulous day on the quiet roads of Lancashire, I doubt if we were ever any further than twenty miles from home at any time. We were limited in numbers as a lot of our members are being sensible and not gathering in large groups and we were well spaced out from each other during the run. At no time were we In close proximity to each other. We were met by a jovial Brian who had the…

N/W Roadrunner Project No.4

Charlie Broom’s Daytona drama’s In the mid 1960s, at 16, l first dipped my toe in the water of motorcycling with a James Cadet 150, given to me by a guy next door, then progressing (and it certainly was) to a Yamaha YL1 twinjet, 100cc, amazing little machine, then a 200cc Suzuki Invader twin, another excellent bike. It was probably around 2 years later, full licience in hand, l stood outside Horsmans motorcycle showroom, gazing in awe at this 1970 Purple Triumph Daytona, it was the begining of a love…

N/W Roadrunner Project No.3

Chris Rimmer’s unusual but beautiful project I’ve always wanted a flat-tanker but never been able to afford one. The other year I saw one of those new Black Douglas Sterling flatties and realised I couldn’t afford one of those either! This led me to the only conclusion. I had to build one myself. Luckily I had a donor bike which could only ever be improved, no matter what I did, in the form of a Chinese AJS js125e. My son Harry had moved on to cars and gave me his…
